So last night on Twitter, Molls had the good sense to post something about The Voyage of The Mimi.
I’m really glad she brought it up because I have some things to say about it.
We had to watch this film series in 4th grade. I had just moved to the town, and just started at the new school. I had come from a school that didn’t have many, shall we say, THINGS. There was probably one TV in the entire elementary school. We ate lunch in the hallways. I mean, it wasn’t dismal, but compared to my new school district, I might as well have gone to school in a boiler room.
So I get to this new school, and they have a) multiple TVs and b) LASER DISCS. We got to watch this thing on LASER DISCS which wasn’t that exciting to the rest of the class, but it BLEW MY MIND. Where is the VHS? Why aren’t they fast-forwarding through commercials?
And to tell you the truth, the actual laser disc made more of an impact than the movie, for me. I’m really glad I paid attention. Something about a boat? And Ben Affleck is a child on this boat? And it’s going somewhere. The only actual part that I remember is that one of the crew members was suffering from hypothermia, so his male crew member had to strip him down and then spoon him in his sleeping bag so that he didn’t die. That’s honestly the only thing I learned from that movie.
Spooning prevents death, and Ben Affleck is a pirate.
Omigosh, I remember that episode!
