The Slow Bleed

This is a realrealsoft original recipe. Totally unplanned. Alan’s neighbour dropped off four fresh lemons right from the tree, and I toyed with the idea of making legit lemonade for the first time, but didn’t have a recipe. I realized you don’t really need one- just go for it! But here’s what I ended up doing:

Cut 4 fresh lemons (one is huge) in half, realize there is no lemon juicer.
Get creative and try and use the bottom of a glass, get frustrated and just squeeze them with your hands.
Find lemon juicer randomly, use it, strain out errant seeds and flotsam.
Pour juice into large bowl, add a cup off borrowed-from-neighbour-sugar!
Add sugar slowly, stirring well, and few squirts of lime juice. Stir until dissolved.
Pour water in to taste, making sure the juice is too your liking (more or less tart).
Pour into tumblrs (harrr harrr) and add frozen blueberries and one frozen raspberry in each.
The fruit juices will drip down into the drink as they thaw, and it looks like a gross bloody mess or eyeball veins. But don’t worry - it tastes much better than that sounds!!

I’m gonna say that RRS is on to something here. I’m not normally a lemonade fan, but this was pretty much a whole bunch of slowly bleeding taste bud happiness. And, that’s the best shot of my kitchen you will ever see. Ever.

What I miss about California: Tree ripened lemons. MMmmm. And almonds?

When you say “almonds”, do you say the beginning like the Allman brothers, or do you say it like Al’s toy barn? I say it like the Allman brothers, but I’ve heard us northern californians say it differently…

I visited the puppies again today.  The runt is definitely my favorite! I think I spent about 2 hours hanging with the pups, and scratching the mum’s neck… good times.

It hurts to feel inadequate and unworthy of someone with all the right qualities, and I don’t pretend not to cry at nights knowing that the permanence of loneliness in my life is a big possibility. But the philosophy that has kept my sanity in check is that there is no point in being miserable about something that is not tangible in my life just yet…I see nothing much that can be done when you don’t even see what you want. If there’s another thing I’ve learned, it’s never to settle for anything less than what I need. The sad thing about life is that dreams are usually so cookie-cutter perfect, that people just settle for the closest things to them. They don’t believe in the existence and sheer possibilities of their own desires. Like me, they’re probably afraid to…But what does prepare a person for love and desire, pain and loss? Each of un runs from even the things we want, primarily because we are afraid to claim them as ours, of consequently being incapable of keeping them, and of realizing that we are inadequate for their needs and wants.
